Lies and Laments
In this series I start with my original micro-memoirs and transform them into visual art. The stories are all from my past and tell about misfortunes, lies, regrets and lunatics I have known. They are my very personal history and are not intended to be read by others. In my attempt to keep the material unreadable I altered the fonts, double printed the paragraphs, changed the color of the words, or turned the sentences into the tiniest letter size to go beyond readers comprehending the printed words to a graphic statement. I cut up the stories into triangles, circles of squares. Since the story pieces were now out of order, I reassembled the pieces. I like to add some deception into my art and placed some of the reconstituted stories in clear plastic Take Out boxes using cocktail toothpicks and wooden skewers to make faux appetizers. The intention is to make the pieces enticing, edible, looking like gourmet treats and transforming the pain and upset in my writings into something attractive and delectable. I completely shredded some of the stories using a cross cut office shredder and filled containers used for retail candy packaging.
